City program helps first-time buyers HAYWARD -- Jose and Marilyn Camacho bought their first home in southern Hayward this year with the help of the city's First-Time Homebuyers Program. "We found our house the first night we looked," said Jose Camacho, who brought a cake to Sam Thompson, the coordinator of the program, as a thank-you present when his escrow closed. The Camachos bought a single-family residence for $323,000 with financial assistance from the program. read more
