Installing Sub-Fascia & Rake Trim

This “How To” article is written for a straight line roof:

  • Check your rafter tails with a string-line to insure a straight line for your sub-fascia

  • Refer to your house plans or blue print for soffit size and style

  • Measure to your exterior wall to make sure you have a correct dimension for soffit

  • Trim rafter tails, if needed.  Note:  Make sure your trim cut is a level cut

  • Install 1×6 or 2×6 (refer to blueprint for specifics) keeping a straight line; extend the sub-fascia beyond the location of your new gable rakes

  • For gable trim you will need to build a “ladder”; make sure all ladder steps are on 16” centers from the exterior sub-fascia to the peak and perpendicular to the ground; some steps may lay flat to the rake

  • Always square/level and string all lines

  • Check all dimensions for accuracy per blueprint specs
