Wasted Shingles take over the US

Wasted Shingles take over the USThe largest waste in roofing business is debris/shingles from roofing projects.  Shingles weigh from 90-150 pounds for every 10×10  area and the volume  of these for a medium size home creates truck loads of debris.  One of the newest green programs is recycling shingles.  This program is very similar to  recycled asphalt in highway construction.  By recycling you save landfill space and money.  It takes a shingle 200-300 years to decompose.  Mountains of shingles are in each and every landfill across the US.  By recycling shingles you can use the asphalt in all asphalt applications.

You can also create income and cut costs by chipping asphalt shingles vs. hauling to the landfill which can be costly due to weight, volume and time/labor spent.  By purchasing either a new or used chipper you can chip the shingles, load them into a dumpster and sell the chipped product to an asphalt company.

Any way you look at it whether you are saving money or saving the environment, recycling shingles is the way to go.
