Waterproofing Your Basement

Basement water damage is a serious problem.  Not only does water infiltration or leaks cause damage to your basement area itself, it can ruin furnishings as well as stored belongings, many of which can’t be replaced.  Standing water also creates an overwhelming musty odor and causes mold which can result in a huge financial loss.  None of these things are good and they all spell serious headaches.

Waterproofing basement walls and floors is not that complicated but does require quite a bit of work.  Examine your area thoroughly for visible seepage.  The most common areas are floor and wall joints and in areas that have already cracked.

The extent and cause of damage will determine the repairs needed.  For instance, is water being forced in from outside pressure?  Is water seeping or actively running through the cracks during rains?

Many times, minor problems can be handled by the homeowner.  There are numerous commercial products on the market that are excellent for solving these problems.  But, if you are experiencing serious problems, you would be wise to call in an expert in the waterproofing field.

Waterproofing your basement has numerous advantages.  It is one of the best long-term investments a homeowner can make.  It will save time and money in the long run and provide a much healthier living environment all while adding to the value of your home.
